Collision Bee's Knees
Collision Bee's Knees
The Story
The Story
This brewery really felt like the middle of nowhere. To the south, there were rolling hills of gold. To the east, a greyish haze I-25 car pollution. To the north, a mismatch of car dealerships and to America's west a perfect wide angel view of the sun setting on the Rocky Mountains.
I went to the car themed brewery one or so times before trying the first version of their Raspberry Gimlet. Both another patron and I agreed that it needed to be chilled before gracing the menu. The folks at Collision have followed my advice and I can confirm it is perfect.
A couple of visits later, I decided to draw a Collison Brewery piece. The raspberry gimlet that I reviewed seemed the natural choice. I brought my tablet and ordered one. I took and compiled the reference photos and prepped to draw.
The bartender asked if I needed anything.
I told him that I wanted to turn the raspberry gimlet into their into art. He informed me that there was more photogenic drink on their menu. I trusted his judgment and he came back with a pink drink garnished with an edible orchid.
Ladies and gentlemen. This why we talk and tip our waitstaff. In my case, it literally made my art better. I still might draw the raspberry gimlet one day, but for now, this picture is the Bee's Knees.

Rooted in family
For our family, Japango has been a labor of love from the start. Jon joined the Japango team in 2001 and when the original owner wanted to explore something new in 2008, he turned to him hoping to keep Japango in the family. Jon was excited to bring back the original head chef, Iwasan, with goals to expand on traditional Japanese cuisine, lean into more modern influences, introduce an innovative bar program and grow into a restaurant Boulder could be excited about. Erin joined the restaurant the same year Jon took it over and the rest is history! In 2013, we expanded into the space we know today, seeing so many of the goals Jon set out to achieve come to fruition. In 2020 as the world halted all around us, we welcomed Isla into the Japango family and in the wild two years since, we have continued to gain the immense gift of perspective and gratitude for the guests and the team that shape the restaurant we love.

About the Artist
The only thing I enjoy more than eating Colorado food culture is drawing it.
I'm M. J. Star. I moved to Colorado in 2019 and have been drawing digitally for almost 2 decades. In early 2022, I started drawing art that depicts Colorado's rich food and drink culture. I've been traveling the state going to various breweries, wineries, cideries, bars, and restaurants. I try their food and drinks, and transform all of that into art that celebrates Colorado's blossoming local food culture.
My shop features all original art work draw on my mobile tablet.
